European Research Council Research Grant to young faculty member of School of Engineering

Georgios Kampitsis one of the new faculty members of our School, assistant professor in Power Electronics, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, received a European Research Council (ERC) starting grant in 2023. The project title is Reinventing Power Electronic Architectures for a Fully Integrated Power Converter-on-a-Chip (ENRICH). The project proposes a fundamental reconsideration of the entire electric power conversion chain, by co-design novel multilevel converter topologies with new semiconductor structures, based on wide band gap materials, mainly Gallium Nitride (GaN).
The ambitious research spans across the fields of Power Electronics, Material Science and Control Theory, and aims to bring numerous benefits with important technological and socioeconomic impact in the automotive, aerospace and renewable energy generation sectors.

This is a 5 year research grant, one of the very few that were awarded to Greek scientists, and the first one awarded to a researcher of our School.
